Thank you God, for my simple and unpretentious tastes
For the pleasure and feel of the sunlight, and the sight of barren wastes;
To hear the sounds of nature and to smell the scent of earth, are more to me than material things, of which I set no worth

From the earliest days walking the woods behind Porlock Weir to the time I sat beside West Somerset railway arranging accommodation that was going to give me 15 of the best years of my life and the last days at the Carnarvon Arms Hotel before it was sold and turned in the luxury apartments.

Watching the polo chukkhas being played off the water meadows that run down to 'Blackpool' where so many fishermen had spent absorbing hours over the years; and now, living in Withypool, where the moor rolls down the Barle valley, these are memories for me, and I hope in reading my book they may enable you to find something to enjoy, and bring back times that seem to have gone forever.

Horses have played a very important part in my life, in particular Merryn My 'Andsome who won the winning the Part Bred Young Stock Cup at Taunton Show in 1997. Not forgetting James, Timmy, Colleen and Amber and her foals. Many were entered at various classes at the Devon County Show and Exford Show.

You will see my fondest for horses in the drawings illustrating this page
and my book.
